DGI-Menard Provides Innovative Ground Support for the Replacement of the Rahway Railway Bridge:
DGI-Menard engineers recently developed an innovative, cost-saving method to improve a site underlain by loose, compressible soils: using both Vertical Wick Drains and Dynamic Compaction. The New Jersey Department of Transportation originally specified stone columns to support an approach embankment for a new bridge over the Rahway River. The DGI-Menard design used 8,000 Wick Drains, installed to depths of up to 30 feet and 845 Dynamic Compaction prints over an area of 55,000 feet to expedite the consolidation of soft soils and to densify fill. The value-engineered solution saved the client $300,000. >Learn more about Wick Drains>Learn more about Dynamic Compaction |
